Arbitrage and Peak Shaving

The Challenge

The customer, a country club in El Cerrito, was facing high peak demand charges and inefficient energy usage and sought a solution to maximize savings while minimizing electric bill costs. They turned to Yotta, a renewable energy company in Austin, Texas, to facilitate the installation of a DC-coupled energy storage system (ESS) to pair with the site’s PV system. After partnering with a Walnut Creek-based solar and storage developer to rapidly procure and deploy Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS, Yotta sought an energy management system that could effectively manage peak demand limits and capture savings through TOU arbitrage. Given the close relationship between Yotta and Energy Toolbase, as well as Energy Toolbase’s proven success at delivering savings in the California market, they decided to partner once again to develop a solution integrating Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS with ETB Controller with Acumen AI to help meet the facility’s goals.

The Solution

Yotta and Energy Toolbase swiftly deployed a solution that integrated ETB Controller with Acumen AI into Yotta’s SolarLEAF ESS, enabling peak shaving and energy arbitrage to reduce monthly electricity bills. The 15kW/36kWh SolarLEAF ESS was installed alongside a 182-kW solar array to ensure optimal charging and discharging cycles. ETB Controller with Acumen AI fulfilled the customer’s requirements by optimizing system performance and maximizing savings through TOU arbitrage and peak shaving. The advanced controls configured the battery to charge during low-cost periods and discharge during high-cost periods, maximizing value and reducing electricity costs. The customer can monitor system performance and savings in real time through the ETB Monitor platform. This project showcases the partnership between Yotta Energy and Energy Toolbase, formally established in August 2024, to provide an innovative energy storage solution tailored to the customer’s needs.
